- WhatsApp Status Has More Users than the Snapchat Feature It Copies
In recent months, Facebook has been repeatedly accused of stealing ideas from Snapchat, but, in the end, WhatsApp Status has turned out to be more popular than Snapchat itself. WhatsApp Status, as you may know, is Facebook's version of Snapchat's Stories feature. This tool now has 175 million daily users, Facebook revealed during the first quarter earnings call. By comparison, Snapchat Stories has 161 million daily users, according to the latest numbers from the company. Ironically, another tool that's seen as a clone, Instagram Stories, is also more popular than Snapchat, with 200 million daily users. - Facebook Closes in On 2 Billion Users, Reports $8 Billion in Revenue
Those who believed years ago that Facebook was destined to crash and burn are eating their words now. The company announced total revenues of over $8 billion, out of which ad revenue was $7.86 billion for the year's first quarter, as well as a 76.6% surge in quarterly profit to just over $3 billion. Facebook's 2017 has been great so far, with huge revenues and just as large profits. What's better for the company, however, is that 85% of its total advertising revenue came from mobile, up from 82% a year earlier. This goes to prove that the company can and will make a profit from its mobile venture, something that investors feared back before the company went public. Research firm eMarketer reports that Facebook is expected to generate close to $32 billion in mobile ad revenue in 2017, which isn't a far-fetched number if the company keeps it up on this trend. - WhatsApp Is Down for Users Across the World - Update
WhatsApp is having some issues and is being reported as "down" by users across the world. WhatsApp is a service that has a pretty good up-time with very few problems, much like Facebook is nowadays. Right now, however, users from all over the world are reporting issues in sending messages to their friends. Some users are also complaining about being unable to load conversations. Downdetector users have flagged issues all across Europe, the United States, and South America. Reports surged over the past hour, it seems, so this is a rather fresh problem. This may very well be a problem with WhatsApp's servers and it remains to be seen how quick they will fix things.
